The Heart of the Estate

A House That Grew Like a Story

Michael Kittredge bought a colonial on this land in 1984 and never stopped adding to it. What stands here now, completed in 2010, is the house all of that became: a great room that rises three stories, a kitchen with five islands, and corners that still surprise people on their third visit.

Nothing about it was rushed and nothing feels repeated. Every room was made for a full table, a lit fire, and the long conversation after dinner.

The Great Room

The great room climbs past two tiers of library balconies to a crest set high in the ceiling. Voices carry up, firelight carries out, and the room holds a full house without ever feeling crowded.
